If you don’t find what you’re looking for on this page or just want to talk more about youth ministry at North Church, contact Cory Unthank, Minister of Youth & Young Adults.
The Youth Ministry at North is a vibrant, active program for youth 6th grade and older. Our mission is to seek to learn, serve, and celebrate God’s love with everyone. We encourage Youth to join in on a number of opportunities to grow in their faith and build relationships with other youth members, including Sunday School, Youth Group, service projects, mission trips, retreats, and fellowship activities.
*LEARN*
Sunday School
Sunday School occurs each week at 9:45 a.m. for Middle School and High School students using curriculum appropriate for their stages in life. Middle School (grades 6-8) meets in room 207 on the 2nd floor. High School (grades 9-12) meets in room 008 on the Lower Level.
Confirmation (Returning Fall 2018)
Confirmation is offered every other year for youth 7th grade and up. This class is an opportunity for youth to learn more about their Christian faith, their United Methodist heritage, and their personal faith journey. For most youth, this class leads to joining the church as a full member.
Youth Group
Youth Group takes place during the school year every Sunday from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m (except for special events and holidays). During our Sunday evening gatherings we share a meal together, build friendships through games and activities, and share our faith through prayer and discussion.
Additional Learning Opportunities
Events like service projects, service learning trips, and retreats are further opportunities for learning. See Cory Unthank for more information.
*SERVE*
Appalachia Service Project
The Appalachia Service Project is a 20+ year tradition at North for youth currently in 8th grade and up. Crews travel to the Appalachian region for a week during the summer to help restore homes and build relationships.. Check out this video from ASP 2016! Our next trip is July 15-21, 2018.
Additional Service Opportunities
There are many other service opportunities that we offer, many of which take place during regular youth group hours on Sundays. These include helping our church community through caring for the church building/grounds, serving needy families that stay with us as a part of Interfaith Hospitality Network, and serving local community members a meal in our Bread and Bowl ministry. See Cory Unthank for more information.
*CELEBRATE*
We celebrate all the time! Retreats are offered at various times throughout the year to help youth and adults grow in relationships with one another and with God. Fun activities like hayrides, Christmas parties, and summer fellowship time are always part of our celebration. See Cory Unthank for more information.
*COMMUNICATION*
We have many ways that we comunicate updates about our ministry. We have a weekly all-church newsletter, a separate weekly newsletter just for youth ministry, we have 2 apps (Remind for group text updates and reminders, and Band for calendar and picture sharing) for students and parents to follow along, an all church email communication system called NorthNet, and we have an all church Facebook page. To get more information on how to stay up to date on all things Youth Ministry, see Cory Unthank.
