The 38th & Meridian Farmers’ Market helps increase access to fresh produce in the Mid-North neighborhood. In the 2011 season through a program piloted to increase the buying power of families living at or below the poverty level, North Church provided $4,087 in matching food vouchers for Women Infants and Children (W.I.C.) participants. A total of 273 families from over 20 ZIP codes benefited from this program.
Overall, the market serves more than 5,200 customers from surrounding communities. People continue to flock to this afternoon market which provides locally grown food, educational information, and health screenings. The market season runs June through September and will be held on the first, third and fifth Thursdays from 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The fifth Thursday markets will have a special arts and community focus that will allow customers to purchase non-consumables from area entrepreneurs.
